In this video, Dr. Bockow shares her orthodontic treatment timeline for adults, incorporating her interdisciplinary approach with a focus on airway and immediate attention to sleep issues and apnea. From Myofunctional therapy to an ENT evaluation and an assessment on the need for oral surgery, each patient is sure to receive a thorough diagnosis.
Dr. Rebecca Bockow is a dual-trained board-certified orthodontist and periodontist – one of only a handful in the country. She lectures nationally on periodontics, orthodontics, interdisciplinary orthodontics, airway, and skeletal growth and development.
” With the adult patients, it’s a similar timeline. It’s just that oftentimes, they need surgery. So same idea, and we refer for sleep study.
” We make sure they start on CPAP. We don’t want a patient that has diagnosed apnea to go untreated. Myofunctional therapy evaluation, assess tongue mobility, the ability to breathe with lips together, oral surgery evaluation as needed.
”We do a team treatment plan, pre-surgical ortho or maybe it’s dental alveolar decompensation, jaw surgery or maybe it’s a TAD expander, post-surgical ortho, myofunctional therapy, tongue tie release as needed, and a follow up sleep study. Making sure we really come full circle if there is a diagnosis of sleep apnea.”
