Non-Surgical Adult Expansion

In this brief lecture clip, Dr. Rebecca Bockow presents her creative treatment of an adult female with an extremely narrow upper jaw. The crowded upper teeth need room if they are to fit properly and aesthetically, and this will require a unique expansion strategy.
Dr. Rebecca Bockow is a dual-trained board-certified orthodontist and periodontist – one of only a handful in the country. She lectures nationally on periodontics, orthodontics, interdisciplinary orthodontics, airway, and skeletal growth and development.
"So this adult female came to us with a unilateral crossbite, and her maxilla is so narrow that we only can physically fit the smallest MSC that's made, is a six-millimeter MSC. So we were able to get that nice sutra opening.
"So now the sutures are open. But we can't; we've maxed out our expander. So we have to think a little differently here. So anatomically, those sutures are now open, so we should have less resistance to our appliance, and so we went ahead and used the tooth-borne expander.
"We did get some secondary tipping, but we went ahead and widened that upper arch, and you can see once again that nice parallel opening here, and then we were able to finish her up.
"So before and after expansion... pretty compelling once again doing this non-surgically in an adult".
